Vilar Da Donas – el camino francés

images-6

A very special place along the French Way is to make a stop and enjoy some time at the ancient 12th century Romanesque church of Vilar da Donas, in Palas de Rei, which was linked to the famous “The Way Guardians”  – Order of the Santiago Knights.

“The church of Vilar de Donas is a temple of worship catholic , located in the town of Palas de Rey ( Lugo Province , Spain ), by walking the French Way to Santiago . It is a construction of the mid-twelfth century, originally as a church monastic . The foundation of the monastery in the tradition attributed to some women, represented in paintings Gothic chapel, although historical documents state that its foundation made Arias Perez de Monterroso .

Church is linked to the famous Order of the Knights of Santiago and the Templars, even in this church was the burial place of important personalities of this order. This church is considered aCultural Property since 1931 , in the catalog of historic heritage monuments in Spain – Wikipedia (translated from spanish)

Camino Norte – A Special Art Treasure!

IMG-20130109-WA003

Along the Northern Way of the Camino in the town of Baamonde a wonderful little village with a famous history and Galician Sculptor – Victor Corral.  It was a very special day and wonderful adventure with my friend Marisa Granda Escudero who took me to this village and to meet this very kind and talented man. Victor shared with us a personal tour of his garden full of sculptures and his house where he works which is also a museum. If you are enjoying the Camino Norte or want to take a little side trip on your Camino this is a very special Galician Treasure awaiting your Discovery!

“The Northern Way, which passes along the Cantabrian Cornice, is as old as the French Way. During the Middle Ages, and due to the Muslim occupation of the majority of the Peninsula, the European kings used it to travel to Santiago in the safest way. To the extent that the Christian armies were pushing the Moors toward the south, the Northern Way ceded the lead to the French.”

“Leaving Vilalba, boundarystone marks the distance of  120 kilometers to Santiago de Compostela. This section of the Northern Way crosses lands irrigated by the rivers Magdalena, Trimaz and Labrada. In them can be seen lush river bank vegetation. Some parts of the route also cross forested regions.

The traveler passes through centers such as San Xoán de Alba, Saa and Ferreira. Baamonde, the end of the section, appears just afterwards. This village belongs to the municipality of Begonte and has various hospitality facilities.

In Baamonde, it is worthwhile to visit the parish church of Santiago, of transitional Romanesque style (13th century). The temple is watched over by a triple cross from the 18th century and a hollow chestnut tree with a sculpture inside it. Nearby are found the ruins of the fortress of Amarante, destroyed during the peasant revolts of the Middle Ages.

In Baamonde is also the house and museum of the local sculptor Víctor Corral, who works with such Galician materials as granite and wood.”- LUGO TERRA de todo natural

Carrying Grace To Santiago – Maureen Lauran

LAURAN_CarryingGraceCover

For me the Camino has been a journey of SYNCHRONICITY – it has been a flow of people, events and experiences all which led to the Camino and Spain.  It was a journey I would never have expected or anticipated and continues to unfold each day as I am now living in Lugo, Galicia – Spain.

One of the very special Synchronistic experiences was how I was led and became connected with Maureen Lauran December 2010 towards the end of the Xacobeo Holy Year. Through a series of events that were connected over 7 years beginning in 2003 I would be led and guided first to meeting Maureen’s niece Cynthia Lauran who was doing the make up for a television interview where I was to share some of the amazing Camino & Spain Synchronicities – Cynthia would be yet another one in the many years of synchronistic series of events – there is a lot of the story to share which I now transform a Synchronicity TIMELINE of events into book and story form but here are a few related to Maureen Lauran.

Unknown-1

It was another wonderful surprise to end up at the last minute being interviewed and Cynthia while doing my make up for the show said “So what’s your segment on?” and I said “Holy Pilgrimage Spain” she said “Do you mean the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela?. I said “YES”. Cynthia replied “my aunt walked the 500 miles with my grandmother’s ashes on her back. She has painted pictures of the camino and is writing a book you have to meet her!”.  Cynthia, working as the make up artist for the show, had been a COLD CALL – a “random” telephone call which led to her working with Dr. Carol Francis and the show Make Life Happen Now.

So from 7 years before, 2003, and a random invitation for me to have a glass of wine with a girlfriend at a restaurant in San Diego I had never been to before met a man sitting at the bar reading Filmmaker magazine, David Grober, an inventor and filmmaker from Los Angeles, we would become friends, he would later win and and OSCAR – ACADEMY AWARD for his motion picture stabilization unit and his car would break down 3 1/2 years later in San Diego – I called to offer him help and we hadn’t caught up in awhile he asked what I was doing and I said working on a documentary in Spain and he said I have a famous Spanish Opera singer, Israel Lozano, living in my house you have to meet him before he goes to Vienna to sing with Placido Domingo…. There is much more to the story but now time to write it all down.

Thank you for letting me begin to share some the the “SPANISH TRAILS OF SYNCHRONICITY” I have been blessed to experience.

Maureen’s story is powerful, inspiring, healing and transforming!!! It is a story that will touch your life in a very special and wonderful way – Thank you Maureen for your beautiful art and inspiring story!

The tale of one woman’s solitary walk
on “The Way” to Santiago

CARRYING GRACE TO SANTIAGO

A Daughter’s Journey

ILLUSTRATED

______________________________________________

Written and Illustrated by Maureen Lauran
What began as an artist’s vacation
became a pilgrimage of the spirit

On break from her duties as art teacher, Maureen Lauran set out to walk the 500-mile trek across northern
Spain to Santiago de Compostela, hoping for great vistas, delicious wines and crusty breads with other travelers.
Drawing her way through quaint villages, beautiful cathedrals, along meandering rivers, and across ancient
bridges she encountered all of those things . .. . and something more.

Before leaving home, almost as an after-thought, Maureen remembered that the ashes of her mother—Grace—needed
a final resting place. Carrying Grace’s ashes with her would bring up many unwanted memories. Along with those
memories, however, her final tribute to a difficult woman brought one of the “miracles of the Camino.”
REVIEWS
“… Both Maureen’s evocative drawings
and her inspiring narrative have a palpable           “… She writes with sagacity, grace, and humor,
presence. I highly recommend it.”                         leaving the reader with a satisfaction not unlike
the one she realized from the journey.”

“. . . A heart warming awareness of inner and
outer journeys and a narrative of the beauty and             “I loved this book. It moved me and helped me
uniqueness of our paths, regardless of how                      understand humanity a whole lot more. . . I was
different the roads we may take.”                                   there on the Camino [with] a range of emotions
that Maureen so articulately, often wittily, always
artfully shares with us on her journey.”

Camino by HORSE – A Very Unique CAMINO!

Love when SYNCHRONICITY has you sharing something you love with friends or family and then a wonderful sign comes from the universe sharing the very same topic and appreciation for what you are discussing.  Such was the case today – just now – discussing love, passion and appreciation for horses and how they help and heal.  One story is of a friend Don Meredith and his involvement with an organization: http://www.partnershorses.com/ working with horses providing therapy for special needs children – then a wonderful post of a group of doctors Camino by Horseback – Thank you horses for your loving and giving ways!
“A group of doctors (12 people) of Jerez de la Frontera travel these days the way Fisterra-Muxía riding. Evenings of tomorrow and will pass them in www.casadetrillo.com. In the image look happy between forests both pilgrims like horses. Horse track!”(Translated by Bing)
