You Can See It In Their Eyes & Smiles

IMG_4687

As we prepare for German’s Rexistro 108 Vilei Exhibition in the Parador, June 5, 2013 at 7 PM – I have been thinking of my time meetings pilgrims and hearing their stories.  I am always captivated and moved by the intense sharing of their thoughts, feelings and reflections on the Camino and what they are experiencing.  There is always something amazing in their eyes and smiles as they share their stories.

This was an especially memorable day for me as it was my first experience at German’s historic family house in Vilei where he had just begun documenting the pilgrims as they passed by his house (summer 2011).  It was wonderful to invite the pilgrims to join us for a little camino party – a picture, an afternoon toast and Barbecoa (BBQ) and camino stories.  It was this wonderful day, thank you to Dimas Gonzales, Santiago de Compostela Film Commissioner, for the introduction to German that led to me living and experiencing more of the Camino and Galicia. It has been an experience and adventure of a lifetime.

Path Paved With Poppies – Celebrating Freedom!

IMG00020-20120513-0925

In Celebrating Memorial Day and reflecting on my Camino this time last year there are many words that come to mind – GRATITUDE – PEACE – TRANQUILITY – NATURE’S BEAUTY – FAMILY & FRIENDSHIP – and much more but one word that provides the opportunity to feel those other emotions and to truly CELEBRATE LIFE is FREEDOM! The Camino is full of gifts and blessings that continue to unfold in our hearts and minds. Even before the experience, during and after the Camino is sharing its many gifts inviting us to experience, express and enjoy FREEDOM!

History & Meaning Of The Red Poppy (Wikipedia)

Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day or Armistice Day) is a memorial day observed inCommonwealth countries since the end of World War I to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. This day, or alternative dates, are also recognised as special days for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the end of hostilities of World War I on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended “at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month,” in accordance with the Armisticesigned by representatives of Germany and the Entente between 5:12 and 5:20 that morning. (“At the 11th hour” refers to the passing of the 11th hour, or 11:00 am) World War I officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on 28 June 1919.[1]

The red remembrance poppy has become a familiar emblem of Remembrance Day due to the poem “In Flanders Fields“. These poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their brilliant red colour an appropriate symbol for the blood spilled in the war.

Camino Provides A Unique Space For Thinking & Creating

Jacob-Barnett

The Camino provides a unique space to stop learning from our regular patterns of behaviors. We are out of our normal element and have time to reflect to open up to thinking about life in a truly different and unique way.  Jacob Barnett, now 14 year old prodigy, with an IQ  higher than Einstein shares that this is where many of the worlds great breakthroughs came from,  “Stop learning – Start Thinking & Creating”.  This provides a space that opens a GATEWAY to your own personal revelations, inspirations, and creations that can touch and transform our world for the better.

TEDx Talk by 14-Year-Old with Higher IQ Than Einstein (VIDEO)

“Jacob Barnett is an American mathematician and child prodigy. At 8 years old, Jacob began sneaking into the back of college lectures at IUPUI. After being diagnosed with autism since the age of two and placed in his school’s special ed. program, Jacob’s teachers and doctors were astonished to learn he was able to teach calculus to college students.

At age nine, while playing with shapes, Jacob built a series of mathematical models that expanded Einstein’s field of relativity. A professor at Princeton reviewed his work and confirmed that it was groundbreaking and could someday result in a Nobel Prize. At age 10, Jacob was formally accepted to the University as a full-time college student and went straight into a paid research position in the field of condensed matter physics. For his original work in this field, Jacob set a record, becoming the world’s youngest astrophysics researcher. His paper was subsequently accepted for publication by Physical Review A, a scientific journal shared on sites such as NASA, the Smithsonian, and Harvard’s webpage. Jacob’s work aims to help improve the way light travels in technology.

Jacob is also CEO and founder of Wheel LLC, a business he started in his mom’s garage, and is in the process of writing a book to help end “math phobia” in his generation.

Jacob’s favorite pastime is playing basketball with the kids at his charity, Jacob’s Place. It is a place where kids with autism are inspired every day to be their true authentic selves…just like Jacob.” – Samuel Warde (May 23, 2013)

One of the incredible gifts of the Camino is being surrounded by nature.  Long stretches of nature completely enveloping you in an embrace that is captivating.  From mountains, forest, valleys, rivers and streams, fresh country gardens and animals soaking up the rain or basking in the sunshine it is a powerful experience and everywhere nature is expressing itself as ART.  Everywhere you look something new to discover and enjoy!

The Camino is the perfect combination of time with self, time with others, and our bonding with NATURE! Wishing everyone a very Special and Blessed CAMINO Sunday wherever you are!

Hope you enjoy the inspirational thoughts of Spiritual Awakenings:”Focus less on what you need to do and more on what you need to be. ~ Be Clear ~ Clarity is one of the most important keys to manifesting what you want. O Beiro Vinoteca – Many Special Camino Celebrations!

SantiagoTrip2-68

The Camino has brought many special people into my life and helped to create many wonderful memories.  There is so much to celebrate about the CAMINO – the strength of our spirit to go on a new adventure, the greeting and meeting of people from so many cultures around the world sharing in special memories and creating new friendships. The release of old feelings and emotions as we step boldly into the NOW of our new beginnings and so much more.

For me I always enjoy finding a very special place in towns that I have visited around the world. Traveling mostly by myself I learned it is nice to go to a place that makes you feel at home and part of a family.  One such place where I have celebrated my own camino journeys, as well as, sharing with other pilgrims in a celebratory toast is O Beiro Vinoteca. Pepe Beiro Martinez Alonso and his son Jose M Martinez Alonso and their compañeros are wonderful people and friends I look forward to seeing on every visit to Santiago de Compostela.

Pepe Beiro was born in the house that is now the vinoteca.  It is a house full of history and you can feel tradition surrounding you from the wonderful traditional architecture, the sound of good conversation among pilgrims and friends, and of course you will enjoy the variety of delicious and interesting wines – always making you want to return again and again. Thank you Pepe, Jose and O Beiro Vinoteca compañeros for many special memories – I look forward to many more!

O Beiro Vinoteca is located in the Los Vinos (Streets of Wine) just down from the Cathedral and Plaza Platerias – Rua da Raiña, 3.
